Action, which was scheduled to continue yesterday in the 2008 Milo under-21 league, never materialised as the non appearance of teams continues to hamper competitive play.Yesterday at the Tucville ground, BK International Western Tigers were scheduled to play the Guyana Defence Force but only three members of the Tigers team showed up while the GDF was out in full force.
The referees were left with no other alternative but to award a walk over to the Army team.
President of Western Tigers, Gordon Gilhuys, who was at the venue, disclosed that the majority of his players are working so this poses some challenges for them since employers are not inclined to give time off to players, a problem that continues to hamper sports and its development in Guyana.
Western were themselves, recipients of a walk over on Saturday last from Beacon who never showed up at the Camptown ground.
Up at the University of Guyana ground yesterday, Georgetown Football Club were also a no show for their match up with University of Guyana.
If clubs continue to find it difficult to have players turn up for games scheduled during the week, the organisers, Georgetown Football Association will have to increase the number of matches on weekends to facilitate the smooth running of the competition and eliminate the walk over syndrome which seems to have taken a grip on the tournament.
