-to return to court on May 11
Despite relentless arguments by attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson, former policeman and former murder suspect Sean Hinds was again remanded to prison. Hinds had made his court appearance before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates Court yesterday.
Hinds, 41, proprietor of “Reflections Bar,” is accused of abducting a 13-year-old girl from Freeman Street, East La Penitence on January 27. The charge also states that he intended to have her secretly confined.
According to his lawyer, the offence with which Hinds is charged is bailable, and his client should be admitted to his pretrial liberty.
He further explained to the court that the amendment under which Hinds is charge states that bail can be granted once a ransom is not asked for. He noted that no ransom was demanded from the virtual complainant’s family.
However, police prosecutor Robert Clement stated that he would be reapplying the submissions which were made by the previous prosecutor, and he objected to bail.
Bail was denied, and Hinds is expected to make his next court appearance on May 11.
On the first occasion, the lawyer had raised the issue of Hinds been kept longer than the stipulated 72 hours. According to the lawyer, his client, after being informed that his name was being called in the matter, had immediately made himself available to the police at the East La Penitence Police Station.
