Belle Plaine cricket club of Wakenaam defeated Richmond sports club of Essequibo Coast two games to one in a three match 15 overs softball cricket series played last Sunday at Seeram’s Tarmac Belle Plaine Wakenaam.
In the day’s first game, Richmond got the better of the host by 20 runs.
Richmond batted first and scored 169for 8 off their allotted 15 overs. Rasoor Mohamed made 38, T. Singh 28 and K. Narine 19. Charles Benjamin (4-24) and Chandreka Ragnauth (2-25) were the wicket takers for Belle Plaine who in reply made 149 all out in 13 overs. Roopnarine Persaud top scored with 86 (9×6, 5×4). Bowling for Richmond Elroy Stephney grabbed 4-29, Tribuwan Roopnarine 3-8 and T. Singh 2-21.
In the second game, Belle Plaine rebound to register a comfortable 4-wicket victory over the visitors.
Richmond took first strike and made 178 – 9 in their 15 overs with S. Singh getting 41, while Stephney and Carl Lucile contributed 33 apiece. Chandreka Ragnauth bagged 4-25 and Tulsie Sahadeo 2 – 18.
Belle Plaine in reply hit off the required total in 13 overs ending on 179-6. Oyono Sampson made 44, Keval Chulai 41, Tulsieram Ramadeen 31 and Ragnauth 26. Tribuwan Roopnarine took 2-44 for Richmond.
And in the final, which was reduced to 8 overs, Belle Plaine defeated Richmond by 3 runs.
The home team took first turn at the crease and piled up 160-3 with Chandreka Ragnauth slamming 53, Roopnarine Persaud 36 and Tulsie Sahadeo 34.
Richmond in response managed 87 for 4 off their allotted 8 overs. Sugrim Aheram made 34 and Carl Lucile 24. Sahadeo picked up 2-18 off two overs.
Belle Plaine collected the winning trophy while Roopnarine Persaud took the man-of-the-match in the final award and Chandreka Ragnauth the man-of-the-series prize.
