April 2009 confirmed, dates to be set
Following a successful year on the local scene and at the International level, the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF) has been selected to host the 4th North American Powerlifting Federation and Caribbean Bench Press & Powerlifting Championships in April 2010.
According to a source, the local Federation will commence planning for these championships shortly and believes that this is a big moment for the sport in Guyana.
The GAPF is scheduled to hold their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on February 8 with the new executive going full steam ahead with plans.
The 3rd NAPF Caribbean Bench Press & Powerlifting Championships is set for the US Virgin Islands May 14 – 16, 2009. Guyana made a welcome return to the International Powerlifting arena after a 12 year hiatus last year when our leading athletes ‘Big’ John Edwards and Mervin ‘Spongy’ Moses participated successfully at the 6th North American Powerlifting Federation Annual Regional and 3rd Tournament of the Americas Powerlifting Championships in Oranjestad, Aruba.
Manager of the team to Aruba was Winston Stoby, former IPF Pan American Champion who won in 1996, the last year Guyana was represented at an international event.
Before the AGM, GAPF President and executives are expected to meet with athletes in Berbice and Linden.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
