Police have detained a suspect who is believed to be one of the gunmen who killed businessman Ricardo Henriques at the Juice Power establishment on Middle Street last November.
A police official said that the suspect, known as ‘Nellie’, of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, was arrested yesterday afternoon in Mandela Avenue.
The official said that charges are likely.
Two other persons who were implicated in Henriques’ murder had identified the suspect as one of the gunmen who fled on a motorcycle after killing Henriques.
‘Nellie’, sources say, has been on previous charges for armed robbery.
The other gunman is still at large.
Ricardo Henriques, a wholesaler, of D’Urban Street, Werk-en-Rust, was shot at point blank range to the head by one of two gunmen who pounced on him.
The gunmen escaped with a bag containing an undisclosed sum of money, which they had taken from the victim’s vehicle.
Two employees of the slain man were subsequently charged for his murder.
