Passenger shoots conductor after snatching cash

A 36-year-old minibus conductor was shot in the abdomen at around 15:10 hrs yesterday during a robbery attempt on the Eccles, East Coast Demerara public road.
Police said that Lalbachan Gobin, of Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, was working on a bus which was plying the Parika/Georgetown route.
According to a release, the bus was in the vicinity of Flour Mill Road, located at Eccles, when a male passenger requested to get off. While paying the fare the suspect snatched the money that was in Gobin’s hands.
However, the conductor put up a struggle during which the passenger drew a firearm and shot Gobin in the abdomen, before escaping.
The wounded man has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, while the suspect remains at large.
