All die in triangular love affair in Florida
A triangular love affair between United States-based Guyanese went sour, ending in the deaths of all of them.
Bridjnath, 50, died last Friday after being shot approximately five times by a man identified as Khemraj Dhani, the ex-husband of Bridjnath’s ex-wife, Kalowti Dhani.
Khemraj also shot Kalowti to death before turning the gun on himself.
Bridjnath died at approximately 16:00 hours last Friday at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Florida, after clinging to life for almost one week.
Kalowti Dhani died instantly from multiple gunshot wounds about the body. The incident occurred at Kalowti’s home in Dundee, Florida.
It appears that, although they were estranged, Kalowti still shared a relationship with Khemraj as well as Bridjnath.
This reportedly sparked the murderous rage of her ex-husband, Khemraj.
Son of the now dead Bridjnath, fifteen-year-old Haimchand Bridjnath, who resides at Canefield, East Canje, Berbice, told this newspaper that, more than a year ago, Khemraj had threatened to kill both Bridjnath and Kalowti if they persisted with the relationship.
He made good on his threats on December 20 last, at approximately 18:00 hours, when he went to Kalowti’s house, broke a window and began shooting indiscriminately. Bridjnath, who was visiting Kalowti at the time, was shot approximately five times.
Khemraj then fatally shot Kalowti before shooting and killing himself.
Khemraj and Kalowti’s 17-year-old daughter, Sunita Dhani, who is reportedly pregnant, was at home at the time of the shooting.
She managed to escape to a house next door.
Bridjnath’s neighbours reported that, on the day of the shooting, they saw Bridjnath and his present wife of 18 years, Babso, leave for work as usual at about 16:00 hours. Some two hours later, Bridjnath was found shot at Kalowti’s home.
A confused and grief-wracked Babso stated that she was unsure why her husband was still seeing his ex-wife. She added that the loss of her husband was tremendous. “I aint know how fuh explain it. He was a very good man. He was everything for me. I love he and I know he de love me, too.”
Kaieteur News understands that Bridjnath was married to Kalowti for a period of time in Guyana. The couple then got divorced, and Bridjnath migrated to the US in November 2005.
Some two years later, his present wife, Babso, joined him in Florida.
The two have been tirelessly trying to get legal permission for their son (Haimchand) to join them in the United States.
Bridjnath’s step-daughter, Natasha Bridjnath, told this newspaper that Haimchand has been very depressed since his father’s death.
She added that the family is very worried about his wellbeing and how the news of his father’s death will affect his studies, as he is presently in Fourth Form and is scheduled to write his Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Examinations next year.
Haimchand said that he last saw his father when he (Bridjnath) departed for the United States in 2005.
When he lived in Guyana, Bridjnath worked as a field superintendent for the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo). While in the United States, he worked with a security company.
Bridjnath’s relatives say his body is expected to leave the United States for Guyana on Wednesday.
However, no date has been set for his funeral.
Kaieteur News understands that Kalowti’s funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, in Guyana.
