Abdool Raffi-Khan, 43, is still appealing to the public, especially to the Muslim community, for assistance to continue his dialysis treatment. The treatment costs some $108,000 weekly for the family, money that the family says that it does not have.
Khan, along with his wife, explained that he was diagnosed last May with chronic renal failure, secondary to uncontrolled hypertension and is in urgent need of a kidney transplant. He was immediately placed on the dialysis treatment.
His wife, Parbattie Gerry, told Kaieteur News that doctors had initially told them that Khan was suffering from “high blood pressure”, which was causing him to feel unwell.
However, when the couple revisited doctors in May, they were confronted by a much more serious problem than “high blood pressure”. The woman said that the doctors told her that her husband’s condition had worsened and tests revealed that both of his kidneys were failing.
They both noted that they are willing to continue the treatment, but their finances are running out, since he was the sole bread winner for the family. The woman explained that she cannot work because she has a two-year-old daughter to look at.
She further told this newspaper that the family, excluding her husband, is currently living at the Muslim Youth Organisation on Woolford Avenue.
She said that her husband’s condition has caused her him to develop a respiratory problem so he is presently hospitalized, adding that the condition has also caused him to be unable to ease his bowels.
The couple is therefore appealing to the general public and especially their Muslim brothers and sisters for any assistance which they can afford.
The woman said that her husband is receiving $14,000 from the National Insurance Scheme which helps, but they still need more funds to save her husband’s life.
Persons desirous of contributing to this worthy cause can contact the family on telephone numbers 226-1233 or 690-5338. The money can also be deposited to account number 258-582-6 at Republic Bank.
