The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) have once again contributed to the development of cricket in the Ancient County of Berbice with contributions to the Berbice Cricket Board and the Leslie Amsterdam Memorial under-17, competition.
The donations were made possible through four of the RHTYSC cricket teams under their personal programme, which seeks to get the teams to make a positive difference in their lives of others.
Rose Hall Town Farfan and Mendes under-15 and Pepsi under-19 teams donated $120,000 worth of prizes to the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) for the Leslie Amsterdam Memorial under-17 tournament final which would be played between Lower Corentyne and New Amsterdam.
The donation would result in every member of the winning team receiving education materials and the runners up receiving personal hygiene products. RHTY&SC has also donated 3 trophies for the final.
The donation of a three piece chair set to the BCB was done by the Club’s Bakewell second division team and the Windies Sports Bar first division team. The chair set is for uses in the boards’ office which would make visitors much more comfortable.
RHTY&SC Public Relations Officer Moonish Singh stated that the club over the years has assisted Berbice Cricket on numerous occasions and the two donations were just a continuation of their commitment to assist.
The finals of the Leslie Amsterdam Memorial tournament, he noted is a special to the RHTY&SC as the late cricket administrator was one of the early mentors of the club. The contribution to the Board he said was done after it was recognised that the board office was in urgent need.
The four teams in 2008 have completed a total of 22 projects under their Personal Development Project at the cost of $1.8 million and for the remainder of the year plans are in train to do eight more.
The project involves team members making personal donations and raising funds to assist others in sports, education, culture and charity.
