With just around 25 per cent of the projected target of G$8 million realised, Mings Products and Services Ltd added another $200,000 to the Guyana Rugby Football Union’s goal yesterday, during a simple ceremony held, at the Company’s Head Office.
The Meeting was attended by members of the GFRU Executive including its President Noel Adonis, Public Relations Adviser Christopher ‘Kit’ Nascimento, Mings Products and Services Chief Executive Officer Stanley Ming, Company Director Audrey Forde, Human Resources Supervisor Joy Ann Baird, Coaches Alton Agard and Sherlock Solomon, Manager of the teams Robin Roberts and Ladies Captain Sabola Gray.
Nascimento, who also serves as President of the West Indies Rugby Union in his remarks applauded the effort of Mings Products and Services Ltd for coming on board and offering their assistance to the Union, adding that it is clearly a good example of a small corporate entity that is supportive of sports.
He noted that they’ve long been an ardent supporter of rugby in Guyana, citing their long standing sponsorship of Yamaha Caribs which has remained active for the past 16 years as a typical example of their commitment to the sport.
“They’ve not only contributed to rugby, but are also involved in other disciplines and culture as well which shows how much they care about the development of young people,” Nascimento pointed out.
“They answered an appeal from us pleading with the business community to help us meet the required sum needed to take both teams to the World Cup qualifiers in the Bahamas and that has provided an enormous ease to the Union,” he stated.
Ming spoke of the long relationship between the two parties which dates back to a number of years and even paid recognition to the commitment and dedication the GRFU executive and players have shown which has brought a large measure of success to the country.
He said that he hope the contribution go a far way in helping the GRFU met their estimated target that will allow the teams to participate in the tournament.
Adonis on behalf of the GRFU said it was indeed a great pleasure to be receiving such a sizeable cheque from the Company, thanking them for their intervention which reflected the entity’s support not only for rugby, but sports generally.
The Guyanese teams are scheduled to leave next Thursday for the tournament which last from October 25-26.
