DEAR EDITOR,
I am indeed glad that a corporate entity has come to the fore in offering another option of television viewing in Guyana. Movie Star Guyana must be commended for wanting to expand its services, especially in Berbice.
For too long, we have been stuck in the medieval age of television viewing. With only one radio station, a few TV stations here and there, many of which air sheer trash for us to watch on a daily basis, the hope of something better always lurks around the corner. If teachers were better paid in this country, perhaps I may have had satellite television.
Guyana needs more cable TV companies coming here to invest in the markets. Berbicians desperately need a cable TV company that treats its customers well, that listens to its customers, that regularly seeks to improve the existing service for the betterment of its customers, to be available to listen to customers’ complaints, and not shun their customers; and most of all, to give value for customers’ money. Those who do not fit these criteria should be closed down immediately — no questions asked!
Direct TV should even scale down the amount of channels to customers for a cheaper price. That, too, is another option it should seek to consider.
As for me, my TV viewing habits are slowly diminishing. There’s just nothing interesting for me to see on Guyana TV anymore — the lies, the religious content, the violence, the boring advertisements, the ridiculous birthday greetings and the like, the pro- government propaganda and other atrocities have become too overbearing.
Berbicians would be very happy for a better cable TV option to the one that already exists in the county. It is a total rip-off!
We do hope Movie Star stands to its promise and set up operations here. Believe me when I say that many Berbicians would drop everything they are doing and run to connect to their services. And the former option would become just a very, very bad memory.
