Commuters travelling from Georgetown to the West Coast were, on Wednesday night, confounded and frustrated as there seemed to be a shortage of Route 32 (Georgetown/Parika) minibuses at the Stabroek Market. Almost 200 passengers were stranded between 18:00 and 21:00 hours.
Those who were unable to catch minibuses at the usual Route 32 Park, relocated themselves oblique to the Fire Station at the Stabroek Market.
Soon after, many persons became wise to this ploy and almost all of the passengers waiting for transportation relocated themselves. When a minibus would enter the Park, people pushed and jostled their way into it, often preventing those passengers trying to disembark from the vehicle from doing so.
The reason for the shortage of minibuses was attributed to police activities.
On the other side of the river at least 50 people were seen waiting at the Vreed-en-Hoop junction trying to get transportation to travel further down the Coast.
Those in the city fretted and fumed because by then the speedboat service had halted in keeping with the regulations.
According to some of these passengers, it is usually difficult to get a minibus at those hours, but it has never been as bad as it was Wednesday evening.
