Match re-fixed for Everest on Wednesday
Heavy overnight and morning rain yesterday battered the Enmore Community Centre ground on the East Coast of Demerara and washed out the final of the Demerara Cricket Board’s (DCB) GT&T/Gizmos & Gadgets sponsored Inter-Association 50-overs final between favorites Georgetown and East Bank.
Even as rain, accompanied by heavy winds, pounded the Capitol city from early yesterday morning, the Georgetown team which assembled at the Demerara Cricket Club awaiting the team bus to travel to East Coast were informed that the contest, scheduled to commence at 09:30hrs had been called off.
Rain left the Enmore ground in a soggy condition and with no possibility of play commencing even if the sun appeared after lunch, the DCB decided to postpone the final to the Everest ground in the City on Wednesday after which a 26-man Demerara squad is expected to be announced to contest a two-day Demerara trial game on Thursday and Friday.
The Demerara youth selection panel is headed by former Guyana fast bowler Robert ‘Pacer’ Adonis and includes a representative from each of the four Area Associations.
Demerara face Essequibo at Enterprise on the East Coast of Demerara in the opening game of the Clico Inter-County under-17 two-day competition from September 6 before they face defending champions Berbice in the final round from September 12 at the Wales ground in West Bank Demerara.
Berbice and Essequibo clash in the second round of the three-team tournament at Albion on September 9 &10. (Sean Devers)
