DEAR EDITOR
Earlier this year President Bharrat Jagdeo announced a 5% increase which should be paid to the public servants and government pensioners to assist in cushioning the rising cost of living.
To date, the pensioners who are uplifting their pensions at the various post offices have not received their increases, while it is understood, Post office pensioners who were uplifting their pensions at the treasury department received theirs (arrears) ever since.
A check with the finance manager at the G.P.O. by telephone sometime ago revealed that they received no instructions to pay the arrears. What is very strange, therefore, is that all other pensioners have already received the increase.
Government or otherwise received their increases except those pensioners who are uplifting theirs at post offices.
We will appreciate if you the authorities can investigate this matter and advise us urgently what the position is.
