Edward Jerrioh, a young man attached to the Sheriff Taxi Service, was robbed and shot shortly after he had just finish dropping off a female relative in West Ruimveldt on Wednesday night.
According to reports, Jerrioh was heading back to the base on Sheriff Street at around 23:00hrs, when three men boarded the vehicle and asked to be dropped off in ‘C’ Field Sophia.
However, just as the vehicle reached ‘B’ Field Sophia, one of the men drew a gun and proceeded to rob him.
The taxi driver put up a fight with the man who retaliated. During the scuffle he was dealt a blow to his left eye. He would later have to seek surgery to save the eye.
After the receiving the blow, the victim managed to stagger away but only to run into the path of another of the attackers.
Another fight ensued with the taxi driver emerging the worse. He managed eventually to return to his car and drive to the police station, where ranks took him to the hospital.
It was at the hospital that one of the attackers was arrested but only after a scrap with the suspect, whose brother was subsequently arrested. That attacker is currently in custody.
The other men were seen lurking in the vicinity of the hospital but they disappeared. Kaieteur News understands that the robbers were all members of the Guyana Defence Force.
