Two more road fatalities have been recorded in Berbice. The latest victims are 25-year-old Olsen Gomes and 18-year-old Navindra Nadeson.
Their deaths have pushed statistics to 13 for this year, as compared to 23 for 2007.
According to police in Berbice, the first incident occurred at about 22:00 hours on Sunday on the Clifton Public Road, at Port Mourant.
Navindra Nadeson, of Hampshire Village, was said to be driving motor vehicle PJJ 3987 and was heading toward Springlands.
He lost control of the vehicle and ended up in a trench. He was subsequently pulled out by public spirited citizens and taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Then, at about 00:15 hours on Monday, two men on motor cycle CC 8062 were travelling in the direction of Georgetown.
At the wheel was 24-year-old Puran Persaud, of Murphy Dam in Rosignol. The pillion rider was Olsen Gomes, of 58 Welcome Street, Rosignol.
In the vicinity of the National Bank of Industry and Commerce, the motor cycle apparently struck a metal post and sent both men to the ground with injuries.
They were taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital, where the pillion rider succumbed. According to police, he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
