Corentyne District made light work of neighbours New Amsterdam/Canje trashing them by 71 runs in their quarter-final game of the Republic Bank Right Start Secondary School Under-15, inter district 40 over cricket competition which was played on Saturday at the Port Mourant Community Centre ground.
Corentyne won the toss, elected to bat and struggled to 130-9 in their allotment of overs with three batsmen, Lloydel Lewis, Veerapen Permaul and Andy Mohan scoring 14 each. National U-15 player Dominique Ricky made 11.
The host had a reasonable start of 29; they then slipped to 49-3 before reaching 70 for the same three. Three quick wickets fell to leave them at 77-6, but a fine 25-run 7th wicket partnership between Lewis and Mohan helped them to their eventual score. The New Amsterdam/Canje outfit conceded 30 extras including 29 wides.
Bowling for New Amsterdam/Canje, off spinners Kevin Ramdeen with 3-26 and Flint Reid 2-26 were the main wicket takers.
The visitors in reply were bundled out for a pathetic 59 in 21 overs after being 15-1; only Reid with 11 reached double figures.
The destroyers for Corentyne were leg spinners Shawn Perreira 2-5 and Sasenarine Ernest 2-4, off spinner Veerapen Permaul 2-5 and pacer Lionel Lewis with 2-14.
Corentyne has now booked a place in the national semi-finals which will be played tomorrow and Wednesday at the national stadium at Providence.
In the first semi-final, Corentyne District 6 will take on District 4 in East Coast, while the second game on Wednesday will bring together home team district 14 East Bank against district 16 Essequibo Islands.
The final will be played on Friday at the same venue.
