Taxi driver Duneg Philander is nursing gunshot wounds to his right shoulder and neck, while the owner of Jus Water Inc. on Sheriff Street, Amin Spence, is counting his losses.
But at least in one case the Police were able to track down one of the perpetrators, who is assisting with investigations.
According to reports from Police Headquarters, Eve Leary, at around 04:30 hours, Philander was attacked and robbed by a man armed with a handgun, who shot and injured him in the process.
Investigations revealed that Philander was by his motor vehicle when he was confronted by the man, who demanded cash and jewellery.
The taxi driver put up a resistance, during which the bandit shot him in his right shoulder and neck.
The perpetrator then escaped, after taking away two cell phones and $10,000. from the victim.
Philander is hospitalized at the GPHC.
And at around 09:30 hours yesterday, Spence, the owner of Jus Water Inc. at Sheriff Street, Georgetown, was attacked and robbed by a man outside of the business place.
The businessman had just uplifted $74,900 from the business, and was walking to his vehicle when he was confronted by the man, who demanded the cash.
Spence put up a struggle but the perpetrator told him that he was armed, and at this stage he handed over the money.
As the bandit was escaping, ranks of a mobile Police patrol that was passing were alerted and gave chase, catching up with and arresting the suspect in Seaforth Street, Campbellville.
The stolen cash was recovered, but no weapon was found.
The suspect is in Police custody and will be charged shortly.
