Essequibo wicketkeeper batsman Wayne Osborne and all-rounder Chandreka Ragnauth hit contrasting centuries as their teams recorded victories, as the Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) 15-over softball cricket competition continued in Wakenaam.
The right handed Osborne hit eight sixes and six fours in his unbeaten 123 and shared in an unbroken 123 – run 5th wicket partnership with Abdool Salim, who finished undefeated on 63 as their team All Star piled up 224 for four off their allotted 15 overs against Marie’s Pleasure.
In reply Maria’s Pleasure found the going tough and could only muster 80 in 12 overs with Saeed Mohamed 25 and Cort Carter 20 offering any resistance. Gurnauth Khemraj 3 -24 and Abdool Salim 3 – 26 did the damage for All Stars.
In the day’s second match, Belle Plaine all-rounder Chandreka Ragnauth hit a stylish 134 (10×4, 5×6) and received valuable support from Satnarine Sahadeo as their team rattled up 220 – 3 in 15 overs against Sea Shore, who in reply were skittled out for 96 in 10 overs. Jairam Ramdeen top scored with 22 while off spinner Tulsie Sahadeo picked up 4 – 28 and Shylinder Chulai claimed 2 – 4 for the winners.
In the other matches played, Sarah defeated Maria’s Pleasure by 4 wickets and Sea Shore upset All Stars by 95 runs.
Maria’s Pleasure 174 – 9 in 15 overs. (Hardatt Singh 47, Vishal Pooran 33, Omal Bacon 3 – 28, Narendra Bhagpattie 3 – 22, Dilip Persaud 2 – 18)
Sarah 175 – 6 in 14 overs (Dilip Persaud 69, Besham Bhagpattie 25, Vishal Pooran 3 – 27). Sea Shore 195 – 9 in 15 overs (Mark Gittens 83, Varounie Sasepaul 28, Gurnauth Khemraj 2-24, Khemraj Surajpaul 3 – 20, Moses Ramnarine 2 – 36).
All Star 99 all out 12 overs (Mustak Mohamed 23, Wayne Osborne 19, Mark Gittens 4 – 34)
