Play in the Berbice leg of the Republic Bank Right Start national schools U-15 40-over cricket competition continued in the Ancient County with one game in the New Amsterdam/Canje district.
In the match that was played at the Edinburgh ground on the East Bank of Berbice, Tutorial Academy Secondary School (TASS) continuing their outstanding run in the competition with a crushing 6 wicket win over Berbice Educational Institute (BEI).
An excellent all round performance by TASS all rounder Mark Jackman was the foundation for his teams’ easy win over their opponents as they remain unbeaten in the competition so far was.
Off spinner Jackman, who also plays for the Tucber Park Cricket Club, mesmerized the opposition with some intelligent bowling to end with pristine figures of 6 -10 from 7.5 miserly overs which is the best of the tournament so far in the Berbice/Mahaicony district.
Jackman took over after pacer Shaun Hosannah, who is also having a good tournament, had first rocked the innings to end with figures of 3-20 from 8 overs.
BEI batted first and were bundled out for a 113 in 34.5 overs with Kevin Ramdeen 23 and Kelvin Leitch 22 being their top scorers.
The TASS batsmen in their quest for the runs went on the attack and blazed to 114-4 in 16 overs with opening batsman Flynn Reid again among the runs with a rampant unbeaten 51.
Reid who is having a tremendous run in the competition so far with three consecutives scores over 50 in his three innings, his other scores were an unbeaten 112 and 53.
His 112, scored against School of the Nation, is the only century in the competition so far where he also has the distinction of batting through the innings. Reid and Jackman, 28, tore into the BEI bowling to post 80 for the second wicket as TASS raced to 114-4 in 16 overs.
Bowling for BEI leg spinner Kelvin Leitch picked up 2 wickets.
The competition is continuing.
