Three men yesterday appeared before Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle to answer charges of larceny from the person.
The three men, Bernard Sam, Kevin Floyd and Pascal Smith, are accused of snatching one cellular phone valued at $34,000 from a 16-year-old boy on May 9 last. To the charge they all pleaded guilty as a relative of one of the accused offered to refund the virtual complainant the money for the phone.
The defence lawyer who represented the trio told the court that this is the first time the men are before the court.
But prosecutor Sherwin Matthews said that this is not so. The Magistrate then asked the three men whether they had any cases pending in the court and they all responded in the positive.
The court was informed that the three men are currently before the court on a break and enter charge.
Meanwhile, after the money for the phone was handed over to the virtual complainant, the latter said he was not going to proceed any further with the matter. The prosecution then demanded that the accused pay a court cost.
The Magistrate immediately instructed that only Floyd and Sam pay the cost since it was Smith’s father who repaid the VC for the phone. Floyd and Smith were then placed on a bond to keep the peace for two years.
